I first fell in love with Australia as a 9-year-old child. I was born in the USA but spent most of my childhood on a small mission station in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. We had little contact with the outside world, no television, no internet, no shops, and no cafes. Books took me everywhere I longed to go in my imagination, and Australia was top of the list. My dreams came true when I was granted a visa and arrived in Australia in December 1977 to commence nurse’s training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. I am now a grandmother, living on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast, and I have never stopped reading, or loving Australia. I have combined my passions in this children’s storybook about a very lovable Huntsman spider.
